SHIMLA: The uranium content in groundwater in Himachal Pradesh is not at alarming levels and maximum concentration of the yellow metal in the state was recorded at 37.40 ppb (particles per billion) in a village, the state assembly was told today.

"As per a survey conducted by Guru Nanak Dev University, the uranium content in the groundwater in Himachal is not at alarming levels...the maximum concentration of uranium at 37.40 ppb was recorded in Kasol village, 42 km from Kullu town," HP irrigation and public health minister Ravinder Ravi told Vidhan Sabha in reply to a query.

As per the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board of India, uranium in the groundwater beyond 60 ppb is alarming.
